Social media is changing the landscape of the travel industry. If you found your way here, you already know that. Are you looking for the premier networking and educational event for tourism geeks? If so, you're in the right place. The second annual Symposium on the Use of Social Media in the Tourism Industry (#SoMeT) will be held November 9-11 at Harrah's Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.

The inaugural SoMe Tourism Symposium was held November 17-19, 2010 in Loudoun County, Virginia. Over 100 attendees from destination marketing organizations, hotels, resorts, attractions and other tourism related entities gathered to share ideas and learn more about how social media is affecting promotion within the travel and tourism industry. See what they had to say for yourself—in 140 characters or less, of course:

@mobethann: #SoMeT was EASILY, Hands-down the very best tourism conference I have ever been to! Congrats @gammetguy & hold on, it's gonna be HUGE!
@andrewghayes: OMFG – Loved it! How's that for a testimonial.
@johnpricher: This was an outstanding conference. Loved it!
@billgeist: The SoMeT Symposium: The future of conferences? http://bit.ly/9woM5j #SoMeT
@RickRodriguezTN: Just beginning to react to stimuli after my social media coma. What a phenomenal conference. Thanks #SoMeT!
@theresaoverby: Congrats on a great conference @gammetguy – hands down, the best tourism conference I've been to! #SoMeT
@whosyourannie: Need to get back into my normal routine but I have #SoMeT on the brain. Do we really have to wait an entire year for the next one?

Attendee involvement throughout the entire process makes this event unique. Attendees have a real-time voice in everything including voting on location, session topics and presenters. The 2010 location was determined by a voting process that ranked 26 eligible destinations, this year we had 35 destination RFP submissions. Presenters and educational topics are selected based on potential attendee suggestions. Even the pricing model for the event was based on a survey of travel and tourism professionals to meet the budget requirements of cost-conscious organizations.
